Quilting

I am currently under instruction from, and a member of, The Calico Clippers Quilt Guild in Stockton, MO. We are working on several projects and forever starting new ones. Currently, we are creating blocks for the Quilts for Vets program that is similar to the Quilt’s of Valor but serves specifically local veterans.

We are also creating blocks for community quilts which go to victims of home fires and other tragedies in our immediate area.

We also create and donate toddler and baby blankets to the local Head Start programs in Stockton and El Dorado Springs.

I am also participating in a project that is referred to as the “pizza box” quilt. This project involves purchasing your choice of at least 3 1/2 yards of fabrics and placing them in a clean, unused pizza box. These boxes are collected each month and checked out by the members. Each month you get someone else’s box and create a block of their chosen size (labeled on the box) and return the box at the next month’s meeting. After 12 months, you get your box back and get to put together your quilt as is, or add more blocks to reach your desired size.

Summer 2015, I participated in a nation-wide shop hop known as The Row by Row Experience. In this project, you visit participating shops and pick up free patterns or purchase inexpensive kits to make the “rows” as opposed to blocks. These blocks are designed around a theme and created by the shops. To win, you have to complete 8 blocks and have them bound, quilted and labeled and deliver your completed quilt to a participating shop before anyone else. As a congratulatory gift, you receive 25 fat quarters and, if you used that shop’s row, a surprise gift. This was my winning quilt, turned in at Material Matters in El Dorado Springs, MO. The theme was H2O.

I am really looking forward to this year’s Row by Row quilt because I have recently purchased a Long Arm Quilting Machine and I will be able to complete the whole quilt by myself! The theme for 2016 is “Home Sweet Home”. Pictures to follow as soon as I can start picking up rows on June 21st, 2016!

Here are a couple pictures of practice projects and me trying my hand at embroidery as a quilting design.
